MICROSOFT BUILD: SHIP THE FUTURE AFTERPARTY
Developers don't want another party thrown at them. They want one that gets them.
For Microsoft Build, we skipped the typical conference afterparty and built the night like a product release — shipping boxes at the entrance, tracking-label typography, coded markings, the visual language of something moving from warehouse to world. Satya Nadella opened the evening, setting the tone: this wasn't a side event, it was Microsoft telling its builders they mattered.
From there, every detail had a job. A "Sign Guy" greeted the line outside with meme-perfect signage. Inside: AI portraits laser-etched onto macarons, an RGB photo booth for a genuinely good profile pic, a vending machine that turned grabbing a laptop sticker into a moment, and an upside-down "This is Fine" photo booth for the chaos of pre-launch crunch — the part of the job nobody puts in the recap deck.
None of it required a huge budget. It required deciding whose party this actually was, and designing backward from there.
